‘Where the Crawdads Sing’ is an acclaimed, coming-of-age mystery published in 2018 by American author Delia Owens. The novel has earned rave reviews from literary critics and readers alike and has appeared in numerous best-seller lists.
Now, fans of this beloved novel can finally see the film adaptation of ‘Where the Crawdads Sing.’
From the best-selling novel comes a captivating mystery.
The film adaptation tells the story of Kya, an abandoned girl who raised herself to adulthood in the dangerous marshlands of North Carolina.
For years, rumors of the ‘Marsh Girl’ haunted Barkley Cove, isolating the sharp and resilient Kya from her community. Drawn to two young men from town, Kya opens herself to a new and startling world; but when one of them is found dead, she is immediately cast by the community as the main suspect. As the case unfolds, the verdict as to what actually happened becomes increasingly unclear, threatening to reveal the many secrets that lay within the marsh.
‘Where the Crawdads Sing’ is a mesmerizing and exceptional film adaptation of the 2018 novel that everyone who sees it will enjoy — even if you haven’t read the novel (like myself). The film delivers incredible performances and a good amount of intrigue and mystery.

Actress Daisy Edgar-Jones does an exceptionally great job as Kya, a.k.a. ‘Marsh Girl.’ Her performance as the outcast is filled with emotion and warmth and she absolutely knocks it out of the park. This is the first production that I have seen the actress in and with this performance, she will have a bright future ahead.
The film can be quite emotional and can also be a little heart-breaking. When you see that Kya’s family slowly abandons her, it can really make you tear up a little. The reason why the family slowly separates can also be quite upsetting and sad. In between all of the emotion, there are quite a few thrilling moments that will leave you shocked. These moments kick in during the courtroom drama and when it gets closer to some of the secrets that may or may not be revealed.
‘Where the Crawdads Sing’ also has some really beautiful imagery and cinematography. All of the story lines get connected quite nicely and the courtroom scenes can also be gripping.
So, I highly recommend that you check out this incredible film adaptation on the big screen. It’s very captivating, emotional and has a few twists and turns that you won’t see coming (unless you read the book). Even if you haven’t read the book, you will still enjoy this incredible feature. The cast: Daisy Edgar-Jones as Kya Clark; Taylor John Smith as Tate Walker; Harris Dickinson as Chase Andrews; Michael Hyatt as Mabel; Sterling Macer Jr. as James ‘Jumpin’ Madison; Logan Macrae as Jodie Clark, Bill Kelly as Sheriff Jackson; Jayson Warner Smith as Deputy Perdue; Ahna O’Reilly as Ma; Garret Dillahunt as Pa; Jojo Regina as Little Kya and David Strathairn as Tom Milton.
‘Where the Crawdads Sing’ is written by Lucy Alibar (Amazon Prime’s Troop Zero; Beasts of the Southern Wild), based upon the novel of the same name by Delia Owens and directed by Olivia Newman.
‘Where the Crawdads Sing’ is rated PG-13 for sexual content and some violence including a sexual assault and has a running time of 125 minutes.
