*** BOX OFFICE UPDATE: As of June 24, Inside Out 2 has ALREADY hit $355 million DOMESTIC!!! $728 million worldwide!***

In 2015, Disney and Pixar released the hit film ‘Inside Out.’ This animated film ended up being highly praised and is one of Pixar’s most beloved films. Just recently I gave the 2015 film another look to get ready for the sequel!
So, now, it’s finally time for parents and their children to see everyone’s favorite emotions on the big screen in their new hilarious and touching journey.
Disney and Pixar’s ‘Inside Out 2’ returns to the mind of newly minted teenager Riley just as headquarters is undergoing a sudden demolition to make room for something entirely unexpected: new emotions!
Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust, who’ve long been running a successful operation by all accounts, aren’t sure how to feel when Anxiety shows up. And it looks like she’s not alone.
This eagerly-awaited sequel to one of Pixar’s best films delivers a lot of humorous moments, emotion and some truly heart-warming moments.
Pixar really knocks it out of the part with ‘Inside Out 2’ and is honestly one of their better films. The film’s story is really moving and also really relatable for most people.
We are introduced to a whole new group of emotions (led by Anxiety) and things go all over the place once Riley goes to a hockey camp for a few days. The new set of emotions all have their own stand out moments and the Embarrassment emotion will likely be the fan favorite of the new emotions.
The journey of Joy, Sadness, Anger, Disgust and Fear is also really heart-warming and it shows how far they will go for Riley (who’s also going through new changes, such as trying to make new friends). During their journey, there are also some funny moments, especially when the emotions go through the “sarcasm” part of Riley’s mind.
‘Inside Out 2’ does an outstanding job of recapturing the magic of the first film. The story flows really well. And, during a showing that I attended, I could really tell that everyone really enjoyed this film! This latest Pixar adventure will have you laughing out loud and even tear up a little.
Another stand out moment that will have anyone rolling with laughter is when we get to see the parents’ emotions.
This animated sequel also has a strong message about emotional growth and understanding oneself. So, if you enjoyed the fan favorite 2015 film, you really won’t be disappointed with the sequel.
Some of the cast: Amy Poehler as Joy; Maya Hawke as Anxiety; Kensington Tallman as Riley; Liza Lapira as Disgust; Tony Hale as Fear; Lewis Black as Anger; Phyllis Smith as Sadness; Ayo Edebiri as Envy; Lilimar as Valentina; Adele Exarchopoulos as Ennui and Paul Walter Hauser as Embarrassment, among many others.

‘Inside Out 2’ is written by Meg LeFauvre (Inside Out; The Good Dinosaur) and Dave Holstein and marks the directorial debut of Kelsey Mann.
A sequel to the 2015 Pixar has been rumored for years and finally was officially confirmed during the D23 Expo in September 2022. To assist with the film’s development, Pixae enlisted a group of nine teens, who were dubbed “Riley’s Crew,” to provide feedback on the film to ensure it accurately portrayed modern teenage life.
‘Inside Out 2’ majorly over-performed during its opening weekend and opened to $155 million domestically. As of June 19 (while finishing up this review), the animated sequel ALREADY crossed $200 million domestically in less than a week - a major achievement!
‘Inside Out 2’ is rated PG for some thematic elements and has a running time of 96 minutes.
Let me know on my Wyoming County Press Examiner reviews page on Facebook your thoughts on the animated sequel and tell me what your favorite Pixar film is! And, coming up on the review front - ‘A Quiet Place: Day One,’ ‘Horizon: An American Saga,’ ‘Despicable Me 4’ and more!
