‘Forrest Gump’ is one of the most beloved films to ever come out of the 1990s. This film has been nominated for several awards and won numerous awards as well.
Just recently, this modern classic celebrated its 30th anniversary. Quick side note: throughout next year, I plan on working on some throwback reviews for films that were released in either 1994 or 1995.
So, for its 30th anniversary, I wanted to do a quick throwback review of ‘Forrest Gump.’ And, after reviewing the film ‘Here’ (which is sort of a ‘Gump’ reunion featuring Tom Hanks, Robin Wright and directed by Robert Zemeckis), it sort of made me want to watch ‘Gump’ again!
Slow-witted Forrest Gump has never thought of himself as disadvantaged, and thanks to his supportive mother, he leads anything but a restricted life.
Whether dominating on the gridiron as a college football star, fighting in Vietnam, or captaining a shrimp boat, Forrest inspires people with his childlike optimism.
But one person Forrest cares about most may be the most difficult to save - his childhood love, the sweet but troubled Jenny.
‘Forrest Gump’ is one of those few films that can do it all - make you laugh, make you wonder about life, and make you tear up a little bit.
This beloved 1994 film features many memorable characters with incredible performances from all of the actors. After watching this film many times over the years, I really can’t see anyone else portray Forrest Gump the way Tom Hanks portrayed him. Hanks’ performance is incredibly unforgettable and his scenes with everyone are simply fantastic.
While a good portion of the film is simply light-hearted as we follow Forrest go through many events of his life, we also follow him through some dark, emotional times, such as when he lost his mother, his friend Bubba in Vietnam, and eventually Jenny. One thing that is also still quite emotional is no matter what Jenny has gotten herself into, she always has a place in Forrest’s heart.
Even three decades later, everyone still remembers some of the memorable lines that are said in the film and all of the characters that Gump interacts with and tries to help. His scenes with Lt. Dan after the war are some of the most touching and hilarious moments in the film. And, of course, the film’s soundtrack is still one of the best!
Filled with great characters, really sentimental moments and iconic lines, ‘Forrest Gump’ can still win you over after thirty years.
You can find ‘Forrest Gump’ on the Paramount Plus streaming service.
