The other night I finally had the chance to check out The Creator, which was released in theaters last fall. And, now that it's available to stream on Hulu, I finally had the time to watch it.

This is honestly one of the best original sci-fi films that has been recently released. The story is fantastic and really unique. Sure, the topic of artificial intelligence has been around for some time and isn't anything new. But, how the filmmakers handled this AI story is simply astounding.

The AI designs of the robots and how human-like they are in the story is awesome. The sub-plot of the main character (Joshua) getting close to the young AI child is emotional at times and is one of the better parts of the movie.

The Creator is also visually impressive. The visual effects are incredible and is easily one of the best visually looking films that has been released recently. And one thing I'm surprised about is that the film slightly under-performed at the box office.

If you have Hulu, I definitely suggest you check out The Creator!!

Here are some tidbits for The Creator!

  • On September 19, 2023, Edwards revealed that he initially planned on having a company specializing in AI-generated music replicate Zimmer's style of music. Although the process gave him satisfying results, Edwards instead chose Zimmer to originally score the film. The soundtrack was digitally released by Hollywood Records on September 29, 2023.

  • Edwards has cited the films Apocalypse Now, Baraka, Blade Runner, Akira, Rain Man, The Hit, E.T. and Paper Moon as this film's sources of inspiration.

  • One of the most significant elements of the film is the fictional US military space station NOMAD, which was noted for its distinctive visual design and sound effects. Edwards revealed that it took the entirety of the COVID lockdowns to design it.

  • Filming began in Thailand on January 17, 2022. Principal photography on the film wrapped on May 30, 2022.

  • An early press and industry screening of The Creator, originally meant to have been its world premiere until being impacted by the 2023 Hollywood labor disputes, took place at the TCL Chinese Theatre on September 18, 2023, with props and costumes from the film on display in the lobby.

  • It competed for opening weekend attendance with PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie and Saw X. It was made available to stream on Hulu on December 20, 2023.

  • As of November 19, 2023, The Creator has grossed $40.8 million in the US and Canada, and $63.2 million in other territories, for a worldwide total of $104 million.

  • The Creator has recently been nominated for Best Sound and Best Visual Effects at the Academy Awards.
