For awhile now, I've been meaning to give Robin Hood: Men in Tights another watch after I gave Spaceballs another look awhile back. And with the recent death of comedian-actor Richard Lewis (Prince John in this movie) I decided to finally give this another look and do a quick take!
Now, Robin Hood: Men in Tights may not be the best Mel Brooks movie, but it's still fairly hilarious. There are quite a few gags that are simply hysterical and are memorable. The character of Blinkin (Robin Hood's blind servant) delivers some of the really hysterical moments and when Little John is "drowning" after his duel with Robin Hood gave me one of the biggest laughs.
And, of course, Richard Lewis also delivers some funny bits and is really great with his dry humor. There are quite a few of his scenes that are really funny and a couple that do fall a little flat - which happens!
So, like I said, Robin Hood: Men in Tights may not be his best work, but it will still leave you entertained! You can stream the movie on the Max streaming platform!
Here are some fun tidbits for Robin Hood: Men in Tights!
When Mel Brooks first called Cary Elwes to offer him the lead role, Elwes thought it was a prank and hung up on him.
The shot of the guards falling down in a row took several weeks to prepare.
Elwes based his performance in The Princess Bride on Errol Flynn's portrayal of Robin Hood in 1938s The Adventures of Robin Hood. Fittingly, it was his performance in The Princess Bride that brought Elwes to Brooks' attention.
Feature movie debut of Dave Chappelle (Ahchoo).
Robert Ridgely plays the hangman, and also plays the hangman in Blazing Saddles.
The movie went on to gross $35.7 million domestically and had a worldwide total of $72 million.
