The Blumhouse movie Night Swim came out this past January and I didn't get a chance to see it during it's initial release. I looked at the trailer and thought it look kinda okay. The other day I finally had the chance to check it out ... and even though this horror movie's premise did show a little promise, it was really lacking!
Night Swim did have a few moments where some of the scares could've worked. Yet, most of the cares are just bland. But, the bright side is this is the first horror movie that has a haunted pool that I'm aware of!
I'll admit I really didn't quite understand the explanation about what was really going on with the supernatural force that's going on in the pool and maybe will watch it again to see if I can understand it more - a big maybe.
Night Swim is definitely no Blumhouse's greatest for sure, but this could've been a whole lot better. Completely predictable and truly lacking on the scares. Don't think there will be a Night Swim 2.
Here's a couple little tidbits for Night Swim!
The movie's origin goes back to 2014, when Bruce McGuire wrote and directed his low budget five minute 2014 short film of the same name with his friend Rod Blackhurst.
McGuire cited Blumhouse's own films, as well as other films such as Poltergeist (the original), Creature from the Black Lagoon, Jaws, Christine, The Night of the Hunter and The Abyss as the movie's sources of inspirations.
The feature version of Night Swim was reported to be in pre-production in January 2023, following the success of M3GAN.
Night Swim has grossed $32.5 million domestic, and $21.6 million in other territories, for a worldwide total of $54.1 million.
