Hotel Transylvania: A Goofy Halloween Treat for the Whole Family

My Halloween picks continue with the 2012 animated Adam Sandler movie ‘Hotel Transylvania.’

When monsters want to get away from it all, they go to Count Dracula’s Hotel Transylvania, a lavish resort where they can be themselves without humans around to bother them.

On one special weekend, Dracula invites creatures like the Invisible Man, the Mummy and others to celebrate the 118th birthday of his daughter, Mavis.

However, an unforeseen complication unfolds when an ordinary human crashes the party and falls in love with Mavis.

‘Hotel Transylvania’ is a delightful fun animated flick for the entire family to enjoy. The movie’s concept is actually rather unique, which actually turns the monster genre on its head. Instead of portraying monsters as villains, this movie humanizes them and makes the characters relatable.

This animated Adam Sandler movie also does a good job balancing between the child-friendly humor and some jokes and gags that adults would find humorous. The light-hearted tone the movie has makes this an enjoyable watch for the whole family and there are several moments scattered throughout that will make you laugh.

The goofy, fun movie also helps introduce the younger ones to re-vamped, friendlier versions of the monsters that we have grown up watching. With the fun humor that the movie as and a great balance of heart and humor, ‘Hotel Transylvania’ will be a modern Halloween classic for families for years to come!

‘Hotel Transylvania’ was originally created and developed my comedy writer Todd Durham, which he based on his book of the same name. Durham even created a planned “package” that consisted of plans for more movies, TV specials, video games, etc. and showed the package to Sony-Columbia, and the studio green-lit the project shortly after.

And here’s a quick fact you may not know about - did you know a fourth movie was made? After two theatrical sequels, ‘Hotel Transylvania: Transformania,’ was released as an Amazon Prime Video exclusive in 2022 after being delayed numerous times during the early days of the pandemic. The fourth movie was initially set for a theatrical release prior to the pandemic.

‘Hotel Transylvania’ is rated PG for some rude humor, action and scary images and has a running time of 91 minutes.

‘Hotel Transylvania’ will also be showing during the upcoming Dietrich Theater Spooky Fest! If you can’t make it to the film during Spooky Fest, the animated flick is also streaming on Peacock.
