‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ started out as an on-going video game series and media franchise created by Scott Cawthan (who also co-wrote this movie). The first video game of the same name was released on Aug. 8, 2014, and the series had since gained a lot of popularity worldwide.
Now, after numerous video games since its 2014 launch and being years in development, the game finally makes its way to the big screen.
‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ follows a troubled security guard as he begins working at the rundown Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria.
While spending his first night on the job, he realizes the night shift at Freddy’s won’t be so easy to make it through.
Fans of the video game series will surely enjoy seeing their favorite game finally make it on the big screen. The movie adaptation is a fun, entertaining movie that delivers some creepy dark moments here and there that fans will like.
Before watching the movie, I took a look at some videos about the game and researched info about the game since I’m not too familiar with these games at all. And I can tell that the filmmakers who worked on the movie are true fans of the game franchise. The designs of the characters and the Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria look just like the design from the game.
One aspect that I thoroughly enjoyed is the animatronic characters that are featured in this movie. The filmmakers made the right decision on not making the characters fully CGI since that would take the realistic features out of it. And having the characters be animatronic gives them a really creepy feel which helps once they are heavily featured.

The movie also features a few decent jump scares and a few characters that have their own little backstories that connect towards the end. Some of the scares do seem a little tame, likely due to the PG-13 rating. But, nonetheless, you will still have a great time watching ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s — even if you’re not too familiar with the game lore.
Overall, the movie adaptation of the video game is a good time on the big screen. The story that plays throughout the movie works well and the character designs are simply awesome. The twist at the end I really didn’t see coming, but some fans of the series might. Otherwise, come check it out at the Dietrich!

‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ is written by Seth Cuddeback and game creator Scott Cawthan and co-written and directed by Emma Tammi.
A movie adaptation of the popular video game/media franchise has been in development since 2015. The animatronic characters were performed by puppeteers from The Jim Henson Company. The filmmakers also have ideas ready to go if a sequel gets a potential go ahead.
‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ is rated PG-13 for strong violent content, bloody images and language and has a running time of 110 minutes.
