‘The Antisocial Network: The GameStop Short Squeeze and the Ragtag Group of Amateur Traders That Brought Wall Street to Its Knees’ (or just simply ‘The Antisocial Network’) is a non-fiction book written by Ben Mezrich about the GameStop short squeeze. Before reviewing this movie, I really didn’t know a lot about what happened with the GameStop stocks and did a little research.
In January of 2021, a short squeeze of the GameStop stock and other securities took place, causing major financial consequences for certain hedge funds and large losses for short sellers. And, for those who don’t know, a short squeeze is a rapid increase in the price of a stock owing primarily to an excess of short selling of a stock rather than underlying fundamentals.
‘Dumb Money’ is the ultimate David vs. Goliath tale, based on the insane true story of everyday people who flipped the script on Wall Street and got rich by turning GameStop into the world’s hottest company.
In the middle of everything is regular guy Keith Gill, who starts it all by sinking his life savings into the stock and posting about it. When his social posts start blowing up, so does his life and the lives of everyone following him.
As a stock tip becomes a movement, everyone gets rich — until the billionaires fight back, and both sides find their worlds turned upside down.

‘Dumb Money’ is an intriguing film that features a really great cast and does a great job showing the perspective of everyone that was involved with the GameStop stock in one way or another.
The story is quite fascinating. During the course of the film, we follow several characters that are either huge money makers or just someone who follows Gill’s social posts and his journey of him following the stocks. Some of the characters that have watched Gill’s post have invested in the stock after a while.
The real story of this came out of nowhere when the GameStop stock was gaining traction. I remember hearing about this a bit when it was going on and read up more about it prior to checking this film out. While watching the film, I kept thinking to myself that I couldn’t believe all of this is a true story.
The cast did a really fine job in ‘Dumb Money.’ Paul Dano, who portrays Keith Gill, gives another great performance and is becoming one of the best actors out there today. And, Pete Davidson steals the show as his brother, who does a really great job as the main comic relief. It’s also weird to see Seth Rogen as someone who’s involved in the financial field. There are quite a few little moments throughout the film that can really give you a good chuckle.
Overall. ‘Dumb Money’ is an interesting film that also teaches you a bit about how the stock market works. This film can also be both humorous and is absolutely worth a look!
‘Dumb Money’ also has some very relatable characters and it’s also really cool to see all of the character’s net worth before and after the GameStop stocks.
The cast: Paul Dano as Keith Gill; Pete Davidson as Kevin Gill; Vincent D’Onofrio as Steve Cohen; America Ferrera as Jenny; Myha’la Herrold as Riri; Nick Offerman as Ken Griffin; Anthony Ramos as Marcus Barcia; Talia Ryder as Harmony Williams; Sebastian Stan as Vlad Tenev; Shailene Woodley as Caroline Gill and Seth Rogen as Gabe Plotkin.
‘Dumb Money’ is written by Laura Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo and directed by Craig Gillespie (Cruella; I,Tonya).
Development of this movie began in January 2021 when the book ‘The Antisocial Network’ was just a book proposal. Two of the film’s executive producers are the famous Winklevoss twins, Tyler and Cameron. The two took on Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg in a lawsuit that was dramatized in the 2010 film ‘The Social Network.’
‘Dumb Money’ is rated R for pervasive language, sexual material and drug use and has a running time of 105 minutes.
