‘Anyone but you’ a hysterically fun comedy

In the edgy comedy, ‘Anyone But You,’ Bea and Ben look like the perfect couple.

But, after an amazing first date something happens that turns their fiery hot attraction ice cold — until they find themselves unexpectedly thrust together at a destination wedding in Australia.

So they try to do what any two mature adults would do: pretend to be

a couple.

‘Anyone But You’ may seem like a predictable romantic comedy. But, this one is really entertaining. This R-rated romantic comedy really delivers the laughs and is a good movie pick for a date night.

This comedy features a couple lead characters (Ben and Bea) who get themselves into a few awkward situations when they have to pretend that they’re together while being at a wedding. All of the weird situations that they get themselves into are simply hilarious.

Even though ‘Anyone But You’ can be predictable at times, it’s still a fun romantic comedy. There is never a dull moment and the chemistry between the lead characters is great (which is something that generally helps a romantic comedy out, right?). The lead actors, Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney, both have great comedic timing together and a few of their scenes can also be a little heart-felt.

And just like most romantic comedies, there are a few cheesy moments. Yet, in this case when the characters are pretending to be a couple, those cheesy moments really help

the movie. They also re-enact the infamous “I’m flying” scene from ‘Titanic.’ Also, this romantic comedy does take advantage of it’s R rating and the rating makes some of the scenes even funnier.

Overall, ‘Anyone But You’ is a fun comedy that is full of fun, hilarious moments that is sure to keep you entertained. It also has some great Australian scenery. So, bring along your significant other and check out this comedy at the Dietrich.

The cast: Sydney Sweeney as Bea; Glen Powell as Ben; Alexandra Shipp as Claudia; GaTa as Pete; Hadley Robinson as Halle; Michelle Hurd; Carol; Darren Barnet as Jonathan; Rachel Griffiths as Innie; Bryan Brown as Roger and Dermot Mulroney as Leo.

The comedy is written by Ilana Wolpert and co-written/directed by Will Gluck (Easy A; Friends with Benefits; Peter Rabbit 1-2).

‘Anyone But You’ is actually loosely based on the play ‘Much Ado About Nothing.’ Quotations from the play are embedded in the background as title cards and occasionally integrated in the dialogue. Filming began in New South Wales in February 2023 and Sydney in March 2023.

‘Anyone But You’ is rated R for language throughout, sexual content and brief graphic nudity and has a running time of 103 minutes.
