Angels in the Outfield has always been one of my all time favorite Disney movies. I haven't seen this movie in years - ever since I had the VHS copy (remember VHS?). And now this movie is FINALLY available on Disney Plus for its 30th anniversary!!

This 1994 family movie is a great little fantasy that delivers some really good laughs and a few heart-felt moments in between. Christopher Lloyd is still entertaining as always as the head angel and I forgot a few Hollywood stars that had early roles in this movie.

Some of the baseball moments are also entertaining and fun to watch. A few of the baseball scenes can really focus on the fantasy side of things but they are still entertaining nonetheless. It's still really fun to see the angels helping the baseball team out!

So, if you enjoy Angels in the Outfield and want to feel nostalgic, make sure to check this out while it's streaming on Disney Plus!!

Here are a few tidbits for the 1994 classic Angels in the Outfield!

  • At the time of its production and release, the Angels, who entered the American League in 1961 had never won an AL pennant or appeared in a World Series and were best known for their collapses in the ALCS. The Angels would lose their appearances in 1979, 1982 and 1986. Eight years after the movie's release, the Angels won both the franchise's first AL pennant and World Series Champtionship on 2002.

  • Carney Lansford, who plays Kit "Hit or Die" Kesey from the Whit Soix, was a baseball player in real life, who, in fact, played for the Angels from 1978-80.

  • Two of the actors who played Angels players, Adrien Brody and Matthew McConaughey, would go on to win Oscars for Best Actor.

  • Throughout the movie, the J.P. character says "it could happen" seven times.

  • Leslie Nielson was the first choice for the role of head angel Al, but he was busy with Nakked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult. After Tony Danza signed on, he persuased his old Taxi cast member, Christopher Lloyd, to take the role.

  • It's a remake of the 1951 film of the same name.

  • The movie opened at No. 4 at the North American box office, making $8.9 million in its opening weekend. It went on to gross $50.2 million.

  • Angels in the Outfield FINALLY is available on streaming on Disney Plus on July 15, 2024, to coincide with the movie's 30th anniversary.
