With the long awaited sequel ‘A Quiet Place Part II’ finally arriving on the big screen, I figured it was time to give the original 2018 movie another look!

This chilling somewhat post-apocalyptic movie does a tremendously great job delivering the scares. The movie offers a lot of nail-biting suspense and doesn’t dive into any of the possible origins of the monsters/aliens, which makes them even more mysterious. At this time, I’m not sure if the origins are revealed in the sequel or not. However, if you look closely at a few of the newspaper clippings that the father has hung up in the basement, it sort of leaves possible clues.

There are quite a few moments that can get intense and even emotional. The really emotional moment occurs towards the end when the father saves the kids. You will know what I’m talking about if you have seen the movie.

So, if you haven’t had the chance to check out this chilling movie, I highly suggest that you do!!

Here are some interesting tidbits about ‘A Quiet Place’:

  • The film’s director and male lead, John Krasinski, played the creature in a motion capture suit for a few scenes.

  • Actress Millicent Simmonds has been deaf since infancy due to a medication overdose.

  • The filmmakers purchased 20 tons of corn and hired local farmers to grow it.

  • The movie contains about 25 lines of voiced dialogue, although sign language dialogue is used extensively.

  • Since the characters communicate in American Sign Language to avoid making sound, filmmakers hired deaf mentor Douglas Ridloff to teach ASL to the actors and to be available to make corrections.

  • The final look of the creature wasn’t fully figured out until very late in the process during post-production.

  • During filming, the crew avoided making noise so diegetic background sounds could be recorded; the sounds were amplified in post-production.

  • During the scenes in the basement, there are various newspaper articles on the wall, with one headline proclaiming “Meteor hits Mexico with the force of a Nuke,” possibly indicating how the creatures got to Earth.

  • Produced on a budget of $17 million.

  • Production took place from May to November 2017 in Duchess, and Ulster counties in upstate New York.
